They say a high turnover rate is a sign of a poor business model. Well, good thing we don’t make any money off this blog 🙂 We’ve had a handful of changes recently here at LTBM which are probably best described as “bittersweet”. I like to save the best for last so here is the “bitter” portion of that news…
Two of our writers have recently had to call it quits due to increasingly busy schedules. Derek was one of our original writers we started with about 1 ½ years ago. When we began, Derek was in the middle of his studies at seminary and I was hopeful he would have enough free time to contribute regularly, but it wasn’t to be. Most of his efforts took place in the first half or so of 2013. He reviewed some classics like Dracula, Frankenstein, and Apocalypse Now. He examined a hot documentary about Killer Whales in Sea World called Blackfish. Undoubtedly his post which garnered the most attention was when he proposed that Disney’s The Fox and the Hound was racist! Derek is a solid writer and his wit and humor often came through in his writing. For a complete list of Derek’s reviews, rants and lists checkout his archive.
Last week, Eric posted his review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which turned out to be his final post on LTBM. While Eric is not an original writer with us, he was added on very shortly after we began and was a part of the regular reviews for the majority of 2013. Eric sought out an opportunity to become a fireman and that has required a lot of his time and attention, and ultimately will continue to do so. Eric is responsible for the sole video review on LTBM when he reviewed Constantine. He reviewed some very popular titles such as Man of Steel, The Exorcist, and Wreck-it-Ralph. We wish Eric the best in his future fighting fires and saving cats from trees 😉 For a complete list of all Eric’s work here checkout his archive.
Now for the SWEET part of this announcement… If you’re a regular reader of ours you may be familiar with Nate Sala’s work. He has been a guest writer for the entirety of his time at LTBM, but has contributed to a number of different posts, even writing a comprehensive series of reviews on The Matrix Trilogy. My brainwashing scheme has finally taken root and Nate has taken the plunge to hop on board our regular rotation! We’re very excited to have Nate on board on a regular basis. He is a bright guy, very capable of deep discussions on scriptural and spiritual items as well as identifying those elements as they show themselves in the film world. Look for the first of Nate’s regularly scheduled reviews coming very soon.
Finally, we have a brand new addition to the LTBM family. Not only will this person be brought into the regular rotation of reviews, but she will no doubt add a perspective we have been sorely lacking. Did you catch that? SHE! That’s right, Amber will officially become our first female writer on LTBM! Head over to our writer’s page and read up on why Amber will make a great addition to the crew here. I’m sure our female readers often grow tired of typical “guy movies” constantly showing up the page. I’m sure Amber will bring some much needed balance to our overdose of manliness here and we’re really looking forward to her insight into various films from a Christian perspective! Look for her first list and review to be posted soon.
So yeah, lots going on here. Not all change is good or bad. Sometimes it just is. We’re excited moving forward now with 6 regular writers and a guest review here and there to boot. If you love Jesus and movies (in that order), and you’re interested in writing movie reviews from a Christian perspective, we’d love to hear from you a possibly bring you aboard. Get in touch with us via private message on Facebook or Twitter, or leave your contact info here and we will get in touch.
