There are a handful of non-Christian movies that the Christian culture has embraced over the years. These are movies seen as largely inoffensive to our sensibilities with an easily-digested Christian subplot. We have accepted these movies often because the Christian in the film looks pretty good and speaks in generalities that we approve of. Many of these movies please Christians because they are meant to please everybody and offend none. Every once in a while, though, one of these “Christian-approved” films turns out to be not merely spiritually challenging and faith affirming, but also pretty compelling films.
I know what you’re thinking, “What’s a podcast review doing on a movie review blog?” Well chill out, this podcast is about movies. So there!
Regular readers of LTBM are no doubt familiar with the title ‘More Than One Lesson’. Tyler Smith is a writer and podcaster over at More Than One Lesson (MTOL), as well as a guest writer on a quarterly basis with us here. MTOL is a movie discussion podcast from a Christian perspective. Tyler Smith and co-host Josh Long publish regular episodes about 60 to 90 minutes in length a couple of times a month. They also publish “Minisodes”, which are about half the length. Content is about a ‘PG’ rating depending of course on the movie being discussed, but Tyler and Josh do a wonderful job of “keeping it clean” and bring some great insights into films which you may otherwise disregard as having much to say spiritually.
We have some exciting news at Let There Be Movies! In an effort to always deliver the best movie reviews from a Christian perspective, we are welcoming any and all writers that would like to send us their movie reviews and become a guest writer at LTBM! We have recently added another writer to the fold and we’re very excited to include him in the LTBM family.
On our Guest Writers page you’ll find a bio for our latest guest writer, Tyler Smith. Tyler runs a movie review blog and podcast entitled More Than One Lesson. Tyler is a kindred spirit to LTBM in that he also reviews movies from a Christian perspective. I highly recommend Tyler’s podcast, in which he and colleague Josh Long publish episodes highlighting one movie and often contrasting it with another in order to compare similar traits. That comparison then leads to a solid lesson for Christian’s to think about when seeing these films. It’s a very interesting format and the friendship between Tyler and Josh is very evident as they’re often joking on each other and having fun with it.
Give Tyler’s podcast a listen and hop over to his blog and check things out. Come on back here later this week to see how Tyler breaks down a movie from a Christian perspective. We are excited to have him on board to write an occasional review for us!
