We are very happy to announce that LTBM has a new guest writer in the stables: Mikey Fissel from Reel World Theology!
Reel World Theology is a blog and podcast that’s mission is to remind it’s readers and listeners that, “entertainment is not mindless.” Mikey elaborates…
It is easy to walk into a movie and turn your brain off or label a movie as eye-candy. I encourage you to redeem entertainment by watching it with your brain on. Instead of trying to judge characters actions as “good or bad”, or even trying to simply learn a lesson from the story, try to see what the story reflects about the character of God through His creation.
We are looking very forward to getting some quality insight from Mikey every few months. We also want to encourage all of our readers to visit their site for great reviews, and listen in to the podcast for great discussion! You can subscribe on iTunes here.
Keep a look out for Mikey’s first review very soon. Like, tomorrow! Here’s a little bit about Mikey…
Michael (or Mike, or Mikey, or “Fizz”, or “hey you!”) is the creator at Reel World Theology, a site that encourages people to recognize the greater theological themes and narratives in modern entertainment. With the understanding that today’s movie theaters have become modern day pulpits, he currently does his best to avoid simply referring to films as “good” or “bad” and tries to get to the heart of a story while better acknowledging the artistic and creative decisions that make story telling great. Through this outlet he has hosted live film discussions locally and taught informal classes on watching films and TV without turning off your brain.
Fizz currently resides in Greensboro, NC with his wife Laura and a gaggle of amazing friends. When he is not recording podcasts (which he is often doing), he can be found binge watching TV shows, discussing sports, playing music, having people over to his house, taking walks with his wife, and trying to be clever on Facebook.
