A couple of months ago we gave you a list of moral dilemmas in the movies that we thought deserved a little analysis. As that list gained some popularity we quickly realized that identifying and breaking down various moral dilemmas in film is something that we can, and probably should be doing as Christian’s observing an element of pop culture. So often we’re shown characters finding themselves in incredible predicaments with impossible choices to make. That’s one of the great things about films. They highlight some often strange circumstances that many of us may never find ourselves in, but give us a chance to watch it play out and see how each character decides to handle it. What we want to do is take this a step further and ask: What is the right decision? Is there a moral high-ground to take? And at the risk of sounding cliché’, what would Jesus do?
We are calling this feature the Moral Dilemma Dialogue, or MDD for short. On a monthly basis two or three of us here at Let There Be Movies will weigh in on a film that presents a couple of different moral dilemmas. We may never be faced with the choice to take someone’s life, or choose the lesser of two evils, so to speak, but these are good things to discuss. In all our MDD posts we’ll be looking at what scripture has to say about a given topic and what stance we as Christian’s should be taking in light of the amazing love we are shown through Jesus (1 Jn. 2:3-6).
Your involvement is key in making the MDD a success! We need your suggestions for movies and your involvement in discussing these dilemmas in the comments section of each post. Visit the MDD page to suggest some films and look for our first MDD next month!
